Cake Dump

So I think I have a pretty good excuse for not posting for over a month. I had a very busy time making lots of cakes. Here are some pictures to enjoy. P1080021

New phone. New apps.

I had to buy a new phone yesterday. My four year old decided it would be a great idea to use the sink in my bathroom instead of the one she usually uses and dribble water all over my phone. So I now have a spiffy new phone, but ended up having to pay full price for it. If I renewed my contact they were going to make me change to a new plan which would have cost me $40 more a month.

On the up side, I now have fun apps that should make updating my blog more convenient.

So while I get used to using this app, enjoy a cute picture of my adorable niece in the judge's robe costume that my sister and I made for her last night.

New Cakes!

I'm a horrible blogger. I'm so slow at posting stuff. I made these cakes a few weeks ago. They turned out really cute. P1070428

Finally Done!

It's been forever since I posted, but I am glad to say that I am finally completely done with the reversible dresses I have been working on.  I am also extremely glad that I made it one size bigger, since it took me about 6 months to finish it.  I don't think I'm ever going to do applique by hand again though. It takes way too long. I'll have to practice doing it with the sewing machine.

Wedding Cake!

This past weekend I made my second wedding cake ever. I was pretty excited about it. Tiered cakes are so much fun.

It was a plain yellow cake with chocolate icing. I made a fondant bow for the top and did cornelli lace down the sides like a ribbon for decoration. I think it turned out really great.

Peasant Dresses

I made these two adorable peasant dresses for a friend of mine. She had a few fabric remnants that I thought would be perfect as matching dresses for her daughters. I made the first one with ruffle sleeves, but I only had enough fabric remaining for cap sleeves for the second. P1070140 These dresses were made from this wonderful tutorial.

Fat Quarter Pillow Case Dresses

I finally finished the dresses I have been working on. They turned out beautifully. P1070054 This dress is for a friend of my daughter. We were invited to her birthday party on Saturday, so this will be part of her gift. P1070053 This orange and blue one is for my daughter. I will probably have her wear it to the party. I followed this tutorial.

White Chocolate Strawberry Cupcakes

My other passion and artistic outlet is baking and cake decorating. I'm going to be doing a wedding cake in a few weeks, which I'm really excited about. It will be four tiers with chocolate icing. I'm going to make a big fondant bow for the top and maybe some cornelli lace details. P1040807 Here at some cupcakes that I made a while back. The cupcake is white chocolate with fresh strawberries mixed into the batter. The icing was white chocolate mousse icing with strawberry coulis drizzled on top. And the white chocolate chips sprinkled on top of that. They were absolutely amazing. I'm going to have to make them again sometime soon. P1040809
I have a love/hate relationship with my serger. I hated it last night when I spent about 45 minutes threading and rethreading it after a thread snapped. Then after I finished sewing all my dress panels together in about 10 minutes, I remembered why and how much I love it. I love finishing edges with it. I hate having to zigzag edges of fabric. This is so much quicker. Except for the set up. Hopefully, I won't be having to rethreading it for a long time. I'm almost completely finished with one of the pillow case dresses. It just needs a sash, but I have to buy more thread for that one. The other one is almost done too. I'll take photos and post later.

I'm making a little progress on my various projects. I made the yo-yos for the centers for the flowers I'm planning on appliqueing on the reversible dresses, I finished crocheting one cap for a friend and am almost finished with another, and today I cut out fabric for some pillow case style dresses. No photos of new projects yet, so in the mean time, I'll post pictures of the first reversible dress I made. P1050245 P1050246

So I finally got around to creating a blog. I want to start posting my various creative endeavors. I'll have to go through my backlog of photos once I get a better handle on Flickr. I'm currently working on a couple of reversible dresses. I need a few good hours of work time on those since I want to do a bit of embroidery on those. My current rate of progress on those is positively glacial. At any rate, I hope to have projects and photos to post soon.
